Stories and Reflections
In this guided tour, I share the stories, teachings, and symbolism behind my large-scale Eastern Woodland artworks. Rooted in Anishinaabe teachings and shaped by my own creative journey, each piece invites viewers into a world where spirituality, history, culture, and social commentary are carved and painted into wood.
My work reflects the cycles of life, the spirit journey, and the balance of natural forces. From Manidoo Mikan (Spirit Path) and Winter's Retreat to The Descent of Anishinaabe, each piece carries deep symbolism, connecting elements, ancestral teachings, and our role as humans in caring for Mother Earth.
I also confront painful truths, with pieces like My Sacrifice, Indian Bones in the Residential School of Doom, and The Pope Apology exploring the ongoing impacts of colonization and residential schools. Through layered storytelling and provocative imagery, my art reflects on loss, injustice, resilience, and the hope for Reconciliation.
The tour ends with my thoughts on balance, between light and dark, masculine and feminine, life and death, and my hope that this work can help guide us all back to a place of harmony and shared responsibility.
