The Story of How the Hummingbird Earned its Colours — Narrated by James Darin Corbiere with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra
In this storytelling video, I share a traditional tale about how the hummingbird came to have its vibrant colours. Back then, the hummingbird was just a small white bird. The story begins as the four winds (water, earth, fire, and air) argue over which one is the most important. Their quarrel sparks a great fire in the forest.
As the larger animals run for safety, the hummingbird stays behind, refusing to abandon its home. While others doubt its efforts, the hummingbird begins flying back and forth from the lake, carrying tiny drops of water to dampen the ground and slow the flames. It’s a story about courage, determination, and the power of even the smallest actions.
In the end, Creator honours the hummingbird’s bravery and sacrifice by gifting it with shimmering, colourful feathers that shine in the sun. This teaching reminds us that no matter how small we are, when we act with heart and purpose, we can make a meaningful difference.
