The Truth is here, and it’s time for young learners to begin the journey. This age-appropriate edition of The Truth in Truth and Reconciliation Educational Board Game is designed for learners aged 7 to 13, with specialized gameplay options tailored to Grades 3 to 4, 5 to 6, and 7 to 8. While the core experience is designed for these grade bands, younger players (starting at age 7) can also meaningfully participate through supported and collaborative play.
Adapted from my original game for older youth and adults, this version maintains the integrity of the message while making it accessible for elementary and middle school classrooms. It features a reversible board, three distinct decks of Truth and Consequence Cards, and grade-specific rules and curriculum-aligned learning supports. A pre-colonial map evolves throughout the game to show the shifting landscape of Turtle Island, highlighting the impacts of colonization and the diversity and resilience of Indigenous communities.
Through collaborative play, students face challenges, share stories, and learn key lessons about community, identity, and working together. The goal is not to compete, but to understand.
I’m James Darin Corbiere (Waabi Makoohns, Bear Clan), born and raised in Wiikwemkoong, Ontario. I’m a childhood church trauma survivor, a former peacekeeper (police officer), and now an Indigenous language teacher and artist. I created this game to support educators in responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and to help children begin learning these truths early, with honesty and heart.
Developed in collaboration with Indigenous educators and curriculum experts, this game is an invaluable resource for classrooms, families, and other allies who are committed to Truth and Reconciliation.
Miigwetch, Miigwetch, Miigwetch for your support!
